PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Gina Raimondo has ordered the Rhode Island Department of Administration to protect the private contact information of state employees following a Supreme Court decision on union funding.
The Providence Journal reports Raimondo asked Director Michael DiBiase to keep home addresses, telephone numbers and other personal information private. Raimondo warned of organizations that are trying to “undermine public sector unions.”
The Democrat’s calls comes in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last month that found that government workers can’t be forced to contribute to labor unions that represent them in collective bargaining.
Union leaders say the decision will affect revenue and could persuade some members to leave.
Raimondo spokesman Mike Raia cited a conservative group that contacted New York teachers via email about leaving their union.
