New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stands accused by U.S. Customs and Border Protection of crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, according to an Associated Press report released Wednesday.
A letter, which the AP obtained, from Border Patrol’s Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Hull for the El Paso Sector was sent to New York Police Department Commissioner James O’Neill in late June.
It outlines that Mr. De Blasio and his security detail illegally traveled across the border when visiting a holding facility in Texas. The group allegedly accessed the facility without proper authorization by crossing over from Mexico.
The letter claims that when told by an agent that they crossed illegally, Mr. De Blasio and his team refused to wait for a supervisor and instead illegally crossed back into Mexico.
Eric Phillips, a spokesman for the New York City mayor, denied all allegations to the AP. Border Protection declined to give a comment.
