Monumental Sports and Entertainment announced Wednesday that the in-game entertainment experience for Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals games next season will undergo an “overhaul” as part of the $40 million renovations planned for this offseason.
The arena soon will feature a new sound system, DJ stage and 3D projection system. Digital signage will be installed so the arena can change seamlessly from all-Wizards imagery around the concourse to all-Capitals imagery, depending on who is playing at home on a given night.
More hockey fans will get to ride the ice resurfacer before Capitals games and during intermissions, as a “bus” will be added to the Olympia resurfacer.
The teams’ “entertainment squads” are also about to get a makeover. Monumental announced co-ed Wizards Dancers and Caps Spirit teams, as well as “Wizdom” — a senior dance team for the Wizards. The Wizards Power Pack, Wizkids and Secret Service Dunkers all will return.
“Dancers, tumblers and stunters” of all ages who wish to audition for one of the Wizards’ dance teams are asked to reach out to wizardsdancers@monumentalsports.com, while those who want to audition for the Capitals’ spirit team should email gameentertainment@washcaps.com.
“We are committed to putting on the best show possible for every fan who comes to a game at Capital One Arena,” said Jim Van Stone, Monumental’s president of business operations. “So, as we upgrade the facilities at the Arena this summer, we are also upgrading all of our in-game entertainment to keep the experience fresh and on the cutting edge.”
