WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, D-Maryland, has announced that he will be joining the Environment and Public Works Committee.
Van Hollen said the move is part of a series of committee assignment changes being made with the addition of new Senators Doug Jones, D-Alabama, and Tina Smith, D-Minnesota.
The committee has jurisdiction over the Environmental Protection Agency and many of the programs to protect the Chesapeake Bay. It also oversees many federal infrastructure programs, including roads and bridges.
Van Hollen will move from the Agriculture Committee with the right to rejoin that committee when there is an opening.
