House Majority Whip Steve Scalise announced Tuesday that he will have a planned surgery as part of his ongoing recovery from a gunshot wound in June.
“I will remain fully engaged in my work as I heal from this procedure, and I look forward to returning to the Capitol as soon as I can within the coming weeks,” the Louisiana Republican said in a statement.
The congressman was wounded when a gunman opened fire on a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, where Mr. Scalise and fellow GOP lawmakers were practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game. He was the only member seriously wounded and remained in the hospital for several weeks.
His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.
