BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Department of Public Works in Burlington, Vermont, says with warmer temperatures on the way this week, it’s planning to redouble efforts to clear the city of snow and ice.
Department Director Chapin Spencer says the frigid conditions of the last two weeks have prevented complete snow removal from roads. With the warmup, employees will be working on plowing and scraping all surfaces, push remaining snow to the curb.
The department maintains 130 miles of sidewalks, 95 miles of roads and eight miles of bicycle lanes.
The department’s fleet consists of 10 plow trucks and 11 sidewalk tractors. It orders up to 3,500 tons of road salt per year. It has 18 full time employees, two seasonal employees and draws in help from other units and departments.
