BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The owner of the downtown Burlington mall says he has purchased the adjacent Macy’s building after the department store chain announced it was closing its only Vermont location.

The mall property, now known as City Place Burlington, is currently undergoing a $225 million redevelopment. The Burlington Free Press reports Macy’s Inc. announced on Jan. 3 it will be closing its Burlington store in March as part of 100 planned closures across the country.

Developer Don Sinex declined to say Monday what his plans are for the building, except to say redevelopment will complement the current mall development.

City Place Burlington is scheduled to open in the fall of 2019.
