WASHINGTON (AP) - A then-teenage girl accused of stabbing another in a gang killing last year has pleaded guilty as an adult in a Virginia court.
The Washington Post reports that now-18-year-old Venus Romero Iraheta was convicted of murder Monday in Fairfax County court in the January 2017 slaying of 15-year-old Damaris A. Reyes Rivas. Prosecutors say Iraheta was one of 10 MS-13 members and associates who met Damaris at a park seeking revenge for the killing of their local clique leader. They blamed her for luring Christian Sosa Rivas to his own killing.
County Commonwealth’s Attorney Raymond F. Morrogh played cellphone videos in court that the gang captured during Damaris’ slaying. Morrogh says she was stabbed 23 times and suffered head trauma.
Iraheta faces up to life in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 25.
