Mitt Romney was “successfully treated” for prostate cancer last summer, according to multiple reports.

“Mitt Romney was treated over the summer for prostate cancer. He was treated surgically by Dr. Thomas Ahlering at UC Irvine Hospital in California. His prognosis is good; he was successfully treated,” a source close to Mr. Romney told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Mr. Romney was the 2012 Republican nominee for president and is rumored to be considering a bid for Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch’s seat in the Senate.

The former Massachusetts governor was also considered for the secretary of state spot in the Trump administration despite his strong anti-Trump sentiments during the presidential primary season.

Mr. Romney made a formal address in March of 2016 when it was still uncertain whether Mr. Trump would win the necessary delegates to secure the nomination. Mr. Romney tried to persuade voters against supporting Mr. Trump.
