Come on now, admit it — if nothing else, these freezing temperatures have put a damper on the whole climate change logic, the one that goes cars and electric heat are the precursors to humankind’s demise and that the only stop is to tax people more and spread the wealth to lower-income countries via the United Nations.

Or, at the least, stop driving altogether.

Al Gore won’t give it up. He tweeted, “It’s bitter cold in part of the U.S., but climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann explains that’s exactly what we should expect from the climate crisis.”

But just because he and his well-paid scientist friends want to avoid common sense, that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to. Free will, if you will.

The rest of us can read headlines like this, the latest from The Washington Post — “PM Update: Cold again tonight. Freezing rain likely to cause travel headaches Monday evening” — and think, my gosh, this winter sucks.

We don’t have to automatically do a Gore and go, “My goodness, the world is coming to an end. We need more EPA regulations.”

Here’s a bit to chew, from the Bible.

“He provides rain on the earth,” Job writes, of God, “he sends water to the countryside.” And more, from the same Bible book: “He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight. He covers the face of the full moon, spreading His clouds over it.”

But if that isn’t soothing — if that doesn’t remind of the ridiculousness of trying to control the earth’s weather patterns — how about this: It’s cold outside.

It’s been cold outside for several days running now.

And coincidentally, it’s winter time — when the cold normally comes.

Can’t logic play a part in this whole climate warming-slash-climate cooling-slash-climate changing debate?

After all, those alive long enough know that once upon a time, it was acid rain that was the big threat. Then it was global cooling. Then it was climate warming. Then, and this is where we seem to be stuck, it became climate changing — a sort of admission that cooling didn’t bring the desired regulatory outcomes, and neither did warming, so why not try for something more nebulous. Viola, changing was born.

But here’s the kicker: Weather forecasters can’t even get the next day’s temperatures correct — heck, even the next hour’s, half the time. Believing science knows better than God about the state of the entire earth makes absolutely no sense. Believing a few self-interested politicos and environmentalists can control the state of the entire earth’s weather patterns makes even less sense.

Then again, it’s the nonsensical the Gore types seek to keep their pockets filled and their scare-tactics flowing. Environmentalism is, after all and above all, a very profitable business.
