President Trump cheered a decision Friday by a prominent Republican donor family to stop supporting his estranged former adviser, Steve Bannon.
“The Mercer Family recently dumped the leaker known as Sloppy Steve Bannon. Smart!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
The president was referring to conservative billionaire donor Rebekah Mercer and her father, Robert. Ms. Mercer said Thursday that she has distanced herself from Mr. Bannon after years of providing financial support for his projects.
She and her father have been important financial backers of Breitbart News, the organization led by Mr. Bannon.
Mr. Trump was angered this week by Mr. Bannon’s negative comments about him and his family in a new book by author Michael Wolff. Mr. Bannon was fired from his post as White House chief strategist in August.
