VIENNA, Va. — Does Kirk Cousins want to be the Washington Redskins in the long-term?
“The short answer is yes,” Cousins told 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier on Friday.
Cousins addressed his future at Jammin Java in Vienna, Virginia, as part of a charity event, which was also broadcasted on the radio station.
The long answer, of course, is more complicated than that.
Cousins is facing a third straight offseason where he will enter the season without a contract. The Redskins and Cousins could agree to a long-term extension, but many have wondered if they actually will.
Cousins said he doesn’t know if the two parties will reach a deal, saying he would take the next few months to discuss with his agent about his future. Last offseason, Cousins declined to formally counter a long-term offer from the franchise and opted to play the year on a second consecutive franchise tag.
Cousins said he believes the Redskins are ready to commit to a long-term contract with him and he doesn’t have any doubt that he’s wanted by the team.
Cousins’ addressed many topics, including Redskins coach Jay Gruden’s lukewarm comments regarding his play, his relationship with team president Bruce Allen and what he’s looking for.
