BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for parts of western New York, including Buffalo.

Wind chill readings are expected to fall well below zero around upstate New York in the wake of a massive winter storm skirting the region.

Wind chill warnings are up from Thursday night through Sunday morning. The weather service said the wind chill could reach 20 below zero to 30 below zero at times.

The weather service says the dangerously cold wind can cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes

The brunt of the storm heading up the East Coast on Thursday was expected to pass east of the region, but dozens of schools in eastern New York closed amid predictions of several inches of blowing snow.
