SANDWICH, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man who prosecutors say struck and killed two women with his minivan has pleaded not guilty.

The Cape Cod Times reports 55-year-old James Yeh, of Foxborough, entered his plea to charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and a crosswalk violation Wednesday.

Police say Yeh drove through an intersection in Sandwich May 22, hitting 87-year-old Shirley McCarthy and 69-year-old Evelyn Furlong. The two women were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

A police reports shows Yeh told investigators he thought he hit another vehicle until he saw the two women.

Yeh’s attorney declined to comment on the case after the arraignment hearing.

Yeh is scheduled to return to court Feb. 16 for a pretrial hearing.
