Alabama Sen. Doug Jones was reluctant to give his opinion on Steve Bannon’s claims that Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian officials in Trump Tower was “treasonous,” among other comments made in a new book out next week.

“I’ve been a United States senator for less than a day. I’m going on my 19th hour right now,” said Mr. Jones, a Democrat, on CNN.

The book by Michael Wolff, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” made several claims concerning President Trump and his staff, but Mr. Bannon’s comments were released in one of the early excerpts.

Mr. Bannon worked as a strategist in the Trump administration before he was fired last fall.

Mr. Jones did caution against making hasty judgments on the ongoing investigation.

“That was all said by Steve Bannon in a book. And I think this investigation is going to play out. All that information, at one point or another, is going to play out,” Mr. Jones said.

The senator won the special election in Alabama in December against Republican candidate Roy Moore, who was accused of sexual misconduct with teenage girls when he was in his 30s.

Mr. Jones was sworn into the Senate on Wednesday.
