RENO, Nev. (AP) - High-temperature records are falling across northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area, where the unseasonably warm weather is expected to continue for at least another week.

The high reached 69 degrees (20.5 Celsius) on Tuesday at Reno-Tahoe International Airport - shattering the previous record of 65 set in 2003, the National Weather Service said Wednesday. The high of 57 at South Lake Tahoe, California broke the mark of 52 set in 2012.

Records also fell Tuesday across north-central Nevada, including Tonopah, where 67 topped the previous record of 65 recorded in 2003, and Winnemucca, where 66 broke the old mark of 62 dating to 1971. Eureka tied its record of 59 set in 2003.

The mercury climbed as high as 70 degrees Tuesday in Fallon and Hawthorne, but didn’t set records there. Other highs included 69 at Virginia City, 66 at Carson City and 64 at Lovelock.

The balmy weather comes a week after the first series of major winter storms dumped more than 2 feet (60 centimeters) of snow on top of the Sierra Nevada in the mountains around Lake Tahoe.

The weather service said Wednesday high pressure near the West Coast will keep conditions dry throughout the region with above average temperature and generally light winds for the next seven to 10 days. Highs in the region typically are in the 40s this time of year.

“Highs in the 60s will be common, even in some Sierra valleys,” the service said. “This is a good 15 to 20 degrees above average.”
