President Trump’s first State of the Union address is being called “Reaganesque” by a man who served as chief of staff to Ed Meese, the Gipper’s second attorney general.

Radio host Mark Levin, often referred to as “The Great One” by his fans, weighed in on Mr. Trump’s speech on Twitter and Facebook late Monday. While Mr. Levin disagreed with the president’s plan to grant citizenship to 1.8 million illegal immigrants, overall he praised the address’s content and delivery.

“That was a Reaganesque speech,” he tweeted.

Mr. Trump called for bipartisan resolutions to the nation’s public policy debates while offering a staunch defense of his economic policies and tougher border security measures.

“Tonight, I am extending an open hand to work with members of both parties — Democrats and Republicans — to protect our citizens of every background, color, religion, and creed. My duty, and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber, is to defend Americans — to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American Dream,” Mr. Trump said. “Because Americans are dreamers too.”

“This is a truly outstanding speech despite my substantive disagreements with the president’s new support for amnesty and big public spending on family leave and infrastructure,” Mr. Levin responded on Facebook. “But solid on so much else and beautifully delivered. The American people will be very impressed. The media narrative on the president was obliterated tonight and the Democrats know it, which is why they look so glum and are, in fact, out of touch.”

A CNN/SSRS poll taken immediately after the speech generated a “very positive” reaction out of 48 percent of respondents.
