DERBY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont ambulance service has disbanded and ended its contract with the town of Derby.
The Caledonian Record reports three of four board members of Derby Line Ambulance resigned Monday following financial issues. Company officials say Derby Line’s accounts are frozen and crew members haven’t been paid.
A Derby Line accountant was convicted last year of embezzling over $250,000. The company also faced a lien from the IRS.
Derby has signed a contract for coverage with Newport Ambulance. Resources continue to be stretched thin as ambulance companies struggle to cover towns in the region. The Derby Select Board has scheduled an emergency forum next month to discuss the current landscape.
