JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Republican state House member is seeking a judgeship in Lamar County.

Rep. Brad Touchstone of Hattiesburg announced Monday that he’s running to become a judge on the Lamar County Court.

Touchstone was appointed Lamar County prosecutor and youth court prosecutor in 2010 and elected to a full term in 2011. During that time he prosecuted cases in the court where he now wants to become a judge.

County court judges hear misdemeanor cases and preside over preliminary hearings in some felony cases. They also preside over youth cases and can hear civil cases where disputed amounts are less than $200,000.

Touchstone, elected to the House in 2015, says he wants to be at home full time and says his experience qualifies him for the post.
