Matt Drudge of Drudge Report fame posted an eye-opening reflection about Steve Bannon that suggested brewing fireworks between the Breitbart face and key White House players.

In a Twitter post, Drudge wrote: “No wonder schizophrenic Steve Bannon has been walking around with a small army of bodyguards…”

The tweet followed some Drudge Report links at the very top of the page that went like this: “Bannon Turns: ’Treason’ at Trump Tower,” and ” ’Money Laundering’ ” and “Unloads on Family.”

The headlines all linked to the same story from The Guardian. and that one was headlined, “Trump Tower meeting with Russians ’treasonous,’ Bannon says in explosive book.”

What’s it all about?

“Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon has described the Trump Tower meeting between the president’s son and a group of Russians during the 2016 election campaign as ’treasonous’ and ’unpatriotic,’ according to an explosive new book seen by the Guardian,” the Guardian story opens. “Bannon, speaking to author Michael Wolff, warned that the investigation into alleged collusion with the Kremlin will focus on money laundering and predicted: ’They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.’ “

Drudge’s sardonic tweet was no doubt aimed at the widespread confusion that’s marked much of public’s perceptions of the Trump-Bannon relationship, post-presidential election. Rather than a political partnership, it’s been more like a game of cat and mouse: Are they friends? Are they foes? Are they friends again? Oh, wait a minute …

“Schizophrenic,” as Drudge puts it, indeed.
