SENECA, S.C. (AP) - A reported sexual assault at a Clemson University fraternity house over the weekend has led to the suspension of all social events at the South Carolina school’s fraternity houses.

A public safety alert issued early Saturday morning notified the university community that a sexual assault at the Delta Chi Fraternity House in Seneca had been reported. Clemson University police turned the case over to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office to investigate.

The public information officer for the sheriff’s office, Jimmy Watt, tells news outlets that a woman told police she had been assaulted earlier in the evening.

The university’s Interfraternity Council issued a statement Sunday announcing the suspension of all social events held at fraternity houses “until necessary measures are taken.” Those measures have not been specified.
