WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Delaware man has been sentenced to at least 15 years in prison for the slaying of a baby girl who was left in his care.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that James Hammond has been sentenced in the death of a 7-month-old child whose parents left her with Hammond and his girlfriend while they went on vacation in February 2014.

His girlfriend was the baby’s aunt.

A medical examiner’s report says Aubri Thompson died from blunt force trauma.

Hammond was convicted in Aubri’s death in November. A jury found the Harrington man guilty of second-degree murder by abuse.
