BALTIMORE (AP) - Jairus Lyles scored seven 3-pointers for 34 points and Maryland-Baltimore County defeated Maine 86-74 Saturday and closed out the RAC Arena on a high note, winning 11 straight at home.
UMBC shot nearly 60 percent in the second half as they went into halftime trailing by a point but had built a 22-point lead midway through the second half, 69-47.
The Retrievers forced 24 turnovers, turning the miscues into 31 points. UMBC, ranked in the top six nationally for total 3-pointers and 3-pointers made, finished 11 of 26 from behind the arc.
Max Curran scored 12 points for UMBC (15-8, 6-2 America East), Joe Sherburne added 11, K.J.Maura 10 points with nine assists and five steals. Daniel Akin pulled down 10 rebounds to go with nine points.
Maine’s Isaiah White, who grew up near Baltimore, scored a career-high 22 points with seven rebounds to lead the Black Bears (5-18, 2-6).
