A judge in Las Vegas plans to rule next week whether to release police search warrants in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Court spokeswoman Mary Ann Price said Friday that Judge Elissa Cadish said she’ll issue a written order following her closed-door hearing with lawyers representing the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police lawyers argue that releasing documents would scuttle an ongoing investigation that could lead to unspecified charges against an unnamed person.

Media organizations including The Associated Press have been seeking the documents detailing what evidence investigators found after a high-stakes gambler opened fire Oct. 1 from a high-rise hotel into concert below.

Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and injured hundreds more before shooting himself.

Police and the FBI have said they believe Paddock acted alone to plan and carry out the massacre.

A judge in Las Vegas is due to say whether she’ll unseal police search warrant records in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Nevada state court Judge Elissa Cadish said in a court memorandum that she plans to make a public ruling Friday about whether documents will be turned over to media organizations including The Associated Press.

First, the judge says, she’ll meet behind closed doors with Las Vegas police lawyers arguing that making records public will scuttle an ongoing investigation involving an unnamed person based on evidence found during property and internet searches after the Oct. 1 shooting.

Police and the FBI say they believe Stephen Paddock acted alone to fire from a casino high-rise into an open-air concert crowd, killing 58 and injuring hundreds before killing himself.
