LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Latest on a shooting in Los Angeles (all times local):
6 p.m.
Los Angeles police say a man pulled out an AK-47 style rifle and opened fire on officers who were trying to question him.
Amir Ahmad was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer after a nine-hour standoff with police.
Police say Ahmad had shot a man in a church parking lot in the Leimert Park area south of downtown Los Angeles around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.
They say that when officers arrived and confronted Ahmad near the scene, he opened fire on them. No officers were hit but bullets shattered windows and left holes in the side of their patrol car.
Police said Ahmad barricaded himself for several hours inside a nearby garage where he had been living. After he accidentally shot and wounded his dog, police fired tear gas and arrested him.

A gunman who allegedly fired at police when officers responded to reports of a shooting has been arrested after an eight hour standoff in Los Angeles.
Police Capt. Darnell Davenport says the suspect was taken into custody after SWAT officers used tear gas early Thursday in the Leimert Park neighborhood south of downtown LA.
KABC-TV says a man struck in the initial shooting Wednesday evening was hospitalized with minor injuries.
No officers were hurt but the window of a police cruiser was shot out. Officers did not return fire.
The suspect was not immediately identified.

Los Angeles police are searching for a suspect who fired on officers responding to reports of a shooting.
Officer Tony Im says police carried a wounded man to safety as shots rang out Wednesday evening in the Leimert Park neighborhood south of downtown LA.
No officers were hurt but the window of a police cruiser was shot out.
KABC-TV reports investigators believe the suspect is holed up in the area.
The wounded man was hospitalized in unknown condition.
