COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The former board chairman of South Carolina State University has been resentenced to four years in prison for his role in a kickback and corruption scheme.

Federal prosecutors say a judge sentenced Jonathan Pinson in Charleston on Thursday.

Pinson was sentenced to five years in prison in 2015 after being convicted on 29 counts, including racketeering and money laundering. Authorities say he skimmed federal money from projects and falsified paperwork to get more funds.

Prosecutors also said he used his influence to make money off a homecoming concert at the historically black Orangeburg school and tried to get the college to buy land from a Florida developer. In exchange, that developer promised Pinson a Porsche SUV.

An appeals court had vacated his conviction on three counts, necessitating a resentencing hearing.
