TOWNSEND, Mont. (AP) - A 19-year-old Broadwater County detention officer was killed in a head-on collision between his pickup truck and a tractor trailer on Interstate 90 about 40 miles east of Missoula.
Broadwater County Sheriff Wynn Meehan says Dominic Stefano of Townsend died in the crash Wednesday afternoon. The death comes eight months after Broadwater County Deputy Mason Moore was shot to death near Three Forks.
The Montana Highway Patrol says Stefano’s pickup crossed the median and collided with the semi. Trooper Tom Gill says it’s not clear why the pickup crossed the median. Gill says alcohol, drugs and speed are not suspected as factors in the crash.
The Missoulian reports Stefano’s male passenger, also 19, was flown to a Seattle hospital for treatment. The semi driver was hospitalized in Missoula.
