LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Officials with a coastal Southern California city say they have reached an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration after filing a lawsuit over noise from low-flying airplanes.

The Orange County Register reports the city of Laguna Beach and the FAA on Monday reached an agreement that aims to decrease aircraft noise over the city by keeping planes on a set flight path.

The agreement calls for aircraft to cross the coast south of Laguna Beach when departing the John Wayne Airport, and they must rise to an altitude of more than 10,000 feet (3,000 meters).

The city council filed the suit against the FAA in 2016 to challenge the accuracy and efficacy of the agency’s environmental assessment of a proposal to reroute flights at several Southern California airports.
