IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say an autopsy shows that the death of a man whose body was found in the snow off an Iowa City street earlier this month was the result of hypothermia.

The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday released the results of the autopsy on 24-year-old Paul Biagas, whose body was found in the snow on Jan. 2. Officials say Biagas was also acutely intoxicated at the time of his death.

Investigators believe Biagas may have been walking home on New Year’s Eve to his apartment near downtown Iowa City before his death. The wind chill in Iowa City at the time dropped to as low as 20-below (-28.9-Celsius).

Police said at the time that Biagas was not appropriately dressed for the extreme cold.
