OGDEN, Utah (AP) - A 22-year-old Utah man who admitted killing his newborn son has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Krystopher Cleary of Mount Pleasant offered an apology for “everything that has happened” during Monday’s sentencing in district court in Ogden for the 2015 death of 2-week-old Kyson Cleary.

A doctor testified earlier that the infant suffered “devastatingly severe” head injuries, a swollen brain and broken collar bone.

Cleary pleaded guilty to murder in December. He told police the boy stopped breathing after he heard his clavicle bone pop while changing his diaper, but offered no other explanation for the injuries.

The boy’s mother, Madison Wilson, testified Monday that the hardest decision she ever had to make was taking her son off life support four days after he was taken to the hospital.
