Sen. Tom Cotton said Tuesday that President Trump’s position on DACA or immigration issues has not shifted throughout the negotiations process despite what Democrats may say.

“The president’s position has not shifted, and has not been hidden. The president’s position has been clear all along,” Mr. Cotton, Arkansas Republican, said on Fox News.

“What Sen. Schumer and Sen. Durbin mean when they say it’s shifted, or he hasn’t revealed it, is they don’t like his position,” he said referring to Democratic Sens. Charles E. Schumer of New York and Richard J. Durbin of Illinois.

Mr. Cotton also commented on other senators, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, who have said White House aides are sabotaging negotiations on immigration and making it difficult to reach a deal. Mr. Cotton said the comments are “beneath the dignity” of a senator.

The Arkansas Republican has been a key player in negotiations on both DACA — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — and a comprehensive immigration plan. He has a bill with Sen. David Perdue, Georgia Republican, to built a merit-based immigration system and limit the number of legal immigrants allowed in the U.S. each year.

Democrats have already said they oppose this type of legislation.
