SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Last year was a record year for business at Spokane International Airport.
More than 3 million passengers traveled through the airport last year, and they brought more than 72,000 tons of luggage with them.
KXLY-TV reports that the total passenger count of 3.5 million for 2017 beat the previous record of 3.4 million set in 2007.
For cargo, the 2017 total of more than 72,000 tons exceeded the record set in 2015 of 69,000 tons.
Airport board chair Nancy Vorheez attributes the records to the investment by American, Southwest, and United Airlines in new, nonstop services to several U.S. cities.
Vorheez says the airport expects the return of Frontier Airlines with service to Denver beginning in April.
