CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming woman completed a Florida boot camp program and had her prison sentence reduced to probation after suing the Department of Corrections for gender discrimination.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports inmates who successfully complete a boot camp program are eligible to ask a judge to reduce their sentences. But Wyoming does not operate a women’s boot camp.
Taylor Blanchard argued her rights were violated because Wyoming’s boot camp program is open only to young men.
Blanchard’s lawyers filed a motion Tuesday requesting a judge to allow 15 additional women to join in the suit to represent women who are eligible to participate in Wyoming’s boot camp program, but who have been or will be denied participation due to their gender, or not considered by (the department) due to their gender.”
