WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) - Voters in the Vermont community of Waterbury will be deciding whether to contract with the state police for coverage after the village police department was disbanded last year.
The vote takes place during a special meeting on Tuesday.
Residents had voted in June to dissolve the village government, which led to the shutdown of the police department.
WCAX-TV reports that a committee created to study the issue recommended last fall that the town contract with the state police until a local force can be re-established.
The town would pay up to $365,000 a year for two full-time troopers to cover the village and town for 80 hours a week under a three-year contract.
