MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The eight Vermont State Police troopers involved in the fatal shooting of a bank robbery suspect on the grounds of the Montpelier High School are back on duty.

State Police Major Glen Hall tells the Burlington Free Press it could be another two weeks before the investigation into the circumstances of the Jan. 16 shooting that killed 32-year-old Nathan Giffin is ready to turn over to the offices of the Vermont Attorney General and Washington County State’s attorney.

It’s unclear if a Montpelier officer who was involved is back at work.

A death certificate says Giffin died of “rifle wounds of the torso.” He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say Giffin had robbed a bank and was carrying a handgun that turned out to be a BB gun.
