CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - An annual outdoors tournament that celebrates New Hampshire’s hockey heritage has been postponed, due to impending warm weather.
The Black Ice Pond Hockey championship, now in its eighth year, was scheduled for this weekend at White Park in Concord. Organizers have now scheduled it for Thursday, Feb. 8, through Sunday, Feb. 11.
Last year’s tournament was postponed until February, as well, due to warm weather.
The tournament was created both to maintain and expand ice skating opportunities for the community and to honor the city’s place in hockey history. The nation’s first organized hockey game was played on a frozen pond at St. Paul’s School in Concord in 1883.
