TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Legislation rejected by former Republican Gov. Chris Christie is beginning its journey to Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy’s desk.
Democrat-led state Senate committees on Monday approved a bill to restore nearly $7.5 million in family planning grants cut by Christie as well as bills committing New Jersey to climate-change goals.
One bill provides the Department of Health with about $7.5 million in supplemental funding. Christie had cut the aid going back to 2011. Murphy says it’s a priority to restore that aid.
Lawmakers on Monday also approved a bill committing New Jersey to the Paris climate accord. Christie pocket vetoed the measure before leaving office last week.
A third bill would fulfill Murphy’s campaign pledge by rejoining a regional greenhouse gas initiative. Christie pulled out of the initiative in 2011.
