NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a New Jersey doctor sold oxycodone prescriptions and defrauded Medicare out of $30,000.
Jose Leyson faces up to 30 years in prison when he’s sentenced April 26.
The 71-year-old Long Valley resident recently pleaded guilty to illegally distributing oxycodone and conspiracy to commit health care fraud. The urologist owned and served as the medical director of a Newark clinic that provided various services, including pain management and allergy testing.
Prosecutors say Leyson sold four prescriptions to a confidential law enforcement source over a two-month period starting in November 2013. The source obtained 30 mg prescriptions for more than 420 pills.
They also say Leyson submitted about $30,000 in fraudulent bills for allergy tests to Medicare and Medicaid during a nearly four-year period starting in April 2010.
