BURNLEY, England (AP) - Anthony Martial scored his third goal in as many Premier League games as second-placed Manchester United won 1-0 at Burnley on Saturday.
After the game, United manager Jose Mourinho said he expected the big-money deal to sign Chile striker Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal to go through soon.
“I expect soon or never,” said Mourinho. “I think it’s so close - so close that if it doesn’t happen (soon) it’s not going to happen.
“I think everybody is giving everything they can and I think they are going to be successful.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger left Sanchez out of his squad as his side beat Crystal Palace 4-1 at The Emirates.
“I didn’t take him because there is a question of him moving to Manchester United and you cannot drive up north and as well play football,” Wenger said.
“I expect it to happen maybe but I cannot announce it because in the next 48 hours it will be decided one way or the other.”
On the field, Martial grabbed the only goal of the game at Burnley in the 54th minute when Romelu Lukaku held the ball up and shrugged off home defender Ben Mee before setting up the France striker for a shot that went into the net off the bar.
It was United’s fourth successive victory while Burnley, which earned a point at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, slipped to its fourth straight loss of 2018.
United showed why it needs Sanchez’s firepower up front by producing only two efforts on target all game.
At the other end, though, Spain goalkeeper David de Gea helped the visiting team clinch its fifth successive clean sheet.
