Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday the White House is working with leaders on Capitol Hill to layout the legislative agenda for the year.
“I know the big four are set to meet this week with OMB Director Mick Mulvaney with our Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short,” Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on Fox News.
That meeting with House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, is slated to take place Wednesday. Mrs. Conway added that Mr. Ryan and Mr. McConnell will also meet with President Trump at Camp David this week.
The big ticket item both Republicans and Democrats would like to address is infrastructure reform, but Republicans also want to add welfare reform to the docket.
The other big fight — immigration reform — is expected to be one of the first issues Capitol Hill takes on this year as the March 1 deadline for DACA recipients looms.
“He’s made very clear that there is no deal on DACA [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program] unless the wall is built — unless there’s funding for the wall,” Mrs. Conway said.
“Democrats are doing nothing for DACA - just interested in politics. DACA activists and Hispanics will go hard against Dems, will start ’falling in love’ with Republicans and their President! We are about RESULTS,” Mr. Trump tweeted later in the morning.
She added that 2017 was a “disappointment” when it came to “bipartisan action” since Democrats refused to work with Mr. Trump on many of those big legislative issues.
“We want Democratic support on these measures. We wanted it on middle class tax cuts. We wanted it to improve access and availability and affordability of health care,” Mrs. Conway said.
