CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming lawmaker is pushing for a “stand your ground” law that would extend protections for a person who uses deadly force under a serious threat of harm.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports state Sen. Anthony Bouchard’s bill would expand a state “castle doctrine” law enacted in 2008 that states that those who use deadly force in the home do not have to consider if it’s reasonable to retreat.

The Republican senator says his bill aims to protect lawful gun owners from frivolous legal actions after they exercised their rights to defend themselves.

Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg says the bill’s protections would also extend to law enforcement officers who use deadly force on the job.

Bouchard says the bill has been drafted, and he’s seeking co-sponsors.
