PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island officials say they won’t release the pitch for Amazon’s new headquarters even though the state failed to make the cut for potential sites.
Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor tells WPRI-TV the state is still in discussions with the company over other possibilities. He said Thursday the company was impressed with the state’s “high-quality” presentation and proposal.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo previously said the state wouldn’t release its pitch for competitive reasons. Other states, including neighboring Massachusetts, made their bids public.
Boston and neighboring Somerville were the only New England proposals still in contention for the Seattle-based company’s $5 billion new campus.
Pryor echoed a previous statement from a commerce spokesman by saying the Amazon bid was a long shot, but he is proud Rhode Island took the shot.
