Kellyanne Conway said Friday the Democrats are the ones to blame for the shutdown, arguing that they will are hurting more than President Trump with their actions.

“It really is regrettable that Democrats are willing to shutdown the government — which means not just saying no to President Trump, but saying no to our military, saying no to a longer-term extension on the Children’s Health Insurance Program, [and] saying no to federal workers getting their paychecks,” Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on Fox News.

She said she does not think Republicans will be blamed for the possible shutdown and that they will actually do well in the coming midterms: “2018 looks very differently than 2010.”

Mrs. Conway said Republicans don’t have an unpopular bill to justify on the campaign trail, like Democrats did with Obamacare, and the tax bill has only become more popular in the short time since it passed.

She said voters will see it’s Senate Democrats who refused to act after the House passed a short-term spending deal late Thursday. Senate Republicans need their Democratic colleagues’ support to meet the 60-vote requirement for funding bills.
