ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan says the state has contract agreements with major employee unions representing state workers.

The agreement calls for a 2-percent cost-of-living adjustment, along with various enhancement and retention bonuses in public safety and health agencies.

The Washington Post reports union members will vote on the three-year deal Jan. 31. It would take effect Jan. 1, 2019.

Hogan’s office says the contract affects workers with the Maryland Professional Employees Council, the American Federation of Teachers Healthcare - Maryland, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees - Maryland, and the Teamsters Local 355.

The state also is introducing a hiring bonus of up to $5,000 for correctional officers and cadets who meet certain eligibility criteria, along with a $3,000 retention and attendance bonus program for certain registered nurses and correctional officers.
