SAN DIEGO (AP) - A man who held up several businesses at gunpoint throughout San Diego County pleaded guilty to nine counts of robbery and one count each of identity theft and shoplifting.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Michael Garcia also admitted Wednesday a “strike” for a serious felony prior - murdering his father in New Mexico in 1999 when Garcia was 17.
Garcia faces up to more than 36 years in prison when he is sentenced in March.
Prosecutors say Garcia used a stolen ID to purchase two BB guns, then went on a robbery spree last summer.
Prosecutors say Garcia garnered the nickname the “Red Wig Bandit” because he wore a wig of red hair attached to a baseball cap in some of the robberies.
