Paul Pierce told the Boston Celtics he didn’t want the team to honor former guard Isaiah Thomas with a video tribute on Feb. 11 because that date is also the night where Pierce is going to have his jersey retired by the team.

The Celtics caved to Pierce’s request, but not everyone agreed with the move.

Enter Jalen Rose.

On the set of ESPN’s “NBA Countdown,” Rose told Pierce he was being petty about the situation — to Pierce’s face.

Pierce’s reaction was great:

Thomas is now a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics initially planned to honor him when the Cavaliers played in Boston in January, but the guard asked for the tribute to be delayed as Thomas wasn’t fully healthy. The Celtics agreed, postponing the tribute video to Feb. 11 — the next time the Cavs are in Boston.

Then Pierce interjected.

“Can I tell you something about your birthday?” Rose asked. “It’s not only your birthday.”

Indeed.
