KENT, Wash. (AP) - Crews rescued a driver after his vehicle went into the Green River in Kent, Washington.

KOMO-TV reports that Puget Sound Fire and Kent police went to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after a witness called to say a car had driven off the roadway and into the water.

Crews rescued the adult male along the riverbank and took him to the hospital. The victim told responders that he was the only person in the car.

Divers could not find the car in the water after a search helicopter lost sight of the vehicle’s headlights, which died from a failed car battery.

Crews will return to the river after daylight to try to retrieve the car.

Investigators have not determined what caused the driver to leave the roadway.
