MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel has the money edge over Democratic opponent Josh Kaul going into the new year.
Campaign finance reports covering the second half of 2017 were due to the state Ethics Commission by the end of the day Tuesday. The state Republican Party issued a news release Tuesday morning saying Schimel had $529,258 on hand as of Dec. 31. He raised $569,809 over the course of the year, with $271,774 of that coming in the last six months.
Kaul’s campaign said earlier this month that he planned to report about $280,000 on hand as of Dec. 31. He raised slightly more than $429,000 since his campaign began in April with $255,000 coming during the second half of 2017.
