WASHINGTON (AP) - A Washington man has been found guilty of the rape of a woman attacked on a Metro train in 2016.
The Washington Post reports 41-year-old John Hicks was found guilty by a jury of first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense Tuesday. He’d been accused of raping a 39-year-old woman at knifepoint aboard the moving train in Montgomery County, a Maryland suburb of the capital.
The woman testified she’d fallen asleep aboard at 9 a.m. on a weekday after an overnight nursing shift, alone in a rail car when attacked.
Montgomery State’s Attorney John McCarthy says, “It’s shocking that someone was bold enough to have done this in broad daylight.”
Hicks’ attorneys, Samantha Sandler and Tatiana David, declined comment afterward.
Both charges are punishable by up to life in prison.
