BALTIMORE (AP) - Jairus Lyles scored a season-high 35 points to help Maryland, Baltimore County beat Hartford 78-56 on Monday night.
Lyles eclipsed the 30-point mark for the third time this season and seventh of his career. He was 12 of 20 from the field, including 6 of 11 from distance. UMBC made 50 percent of its shots with 12-of-29 shooting from 3-point range.
Joe Sherburne added 13 points and Jourdan Grant 12 for UMBC (13-7, 4-1 America East), which won its ninth straight home game. Nolan Gerrity grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds.
UMBC ended the first half on a 7-0 run for a 31-20 lead behind Lyles’ 14 points.
Jason Dunne led Hartford (10-9, 3-2) with 22 points. The Hawks were held to 34.5 percent shooting for the game.
Both teams were coming off hot-shooting games. UMBC knocked down 16 of 25 3-pointers in its 89-62 victory at UMass Lowell, while Hartford sank 18 of 23 in a 97-65 home win against Binghamton.
